Reader Reviews

  Angel and the Ivory Tower

Scan_Cov_AI.jpg

Nancy from Indiana – “I've laughed and I've cried.  I stayed up all night to finish it!!!  Then went to bed thinking about it! I found the book great reading.  I couldn't put it down.  I wanted to hear what Alice did next.  Who will be interested in it?  I know that I feel women will.”

Debbie from Indiana  – “I was amazed at how a man could so well capture the emotions and thinking of an adolescent girl.”

Rowe from South Carolina – “You've got some talent fella - I'm no critic but your effort is smooth reading.”

David from Nevada  – “These characters are so real.  Are you sure this is fiction?”

Terri from Michigan – “I just finished your book and I loved it!  It was enchanting all the way through.  The characters were very well developed.  I couldn't help but want to root for them, feel for them or be amazed by them.”

Lori from Florida - "I LOVED the book! I laughed, I cried and couldn't wait to finish it and at the same time saved the last 10 pages for 2 days because I didn't want it to end!"

Sandy from Nevada – “I could hardly put it down! His writing style is fantastic & I am very impressed with the way he has interwoven real people & events into his story. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed reading it."

Carl from Michigan – “I consider this book competitive with most of my favorite author's books. I consider Clive Cussler my favorite author along with Robert Ludlum and Janet Evonovitch. Now Don McAllister is on my list of authors that I will buy for each new book. I loved it.”

Jack from Indiana – “It was great! I started it Saturday evening and finished early am Sunday. It definitely kept me reading.

Susan from Indiana - I read your book over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Alice's character survived the loss of her family and a shipwreck, imprisonment in an orphanage, widowhood, and a failed business among other things all before she turned 40.  But she never felt sorry for herself or stopped fighting the good fight.  Thanks for writing such a heartwarming book.

Tonya from Washington –  "It takes a really good writer with twists & turns and one that keeps it flowing for me to be interested and to keep my interest and you did with this one.  Good ole Great Aunt Alice, she was a corker for sure and Great Nephew turned out just like she knew he could.  I put your writing in the category of James Patterson & Janet Evonavich.  I read about 13-15 books a month and some I wish I had never brought home.  Keep em coming Don."

Harriett from Indiana – I'm reading Angel and the Ivory Tower and it is breaking my heart, but can't put it down.  What a wonderful lady.  And, you sir, have an amazing talent!!!

Sylvia from Indiana – “I have thoroughly enjoyed your book, "The Pencil Man". It is so interesting, sad, happy, exciting, hopeful etc...You kept me in suspence many times. Our New Library in Ferdinand, has ordered your book and I have told several people about it. I am ready to let it go out of my hands and let other Sisters and my friends read it. I want to read it again. You did a good job and very cleverly done about the Monastery. Don I enjoyed "Angel in the Ivory Tower" very much, and this one is again such a great book. I hope you continue to write."

Leisa from Washington, D.C. – “LOVED IT! I've recommended it to all my reader-friends. It was so sad, and yet so happy. A great story.”

Hershel from Indiana - “Just finished your book. What a great read. I am impressed. I thought Angel and The Ivory Tower was very well done, but you have surpassed that. However you pulled a fast one and changed my perceived ending. YOU TRICKED ME!!!!!!!!!!  GREAT JOB AGAIN.  IT SHOULD BE A BEST SELLER.

Marie from Indiana – “Hello Don, I just wanted to let you know that I am reading the Pencil Man for the 3rd time. I absolutely love it!  Each time I read it I receive more information that I didn’t receive the other times.  I have and still am enjoying every word of the book.  Thank you for the many hours of enjoyment of your great book !"

Cynthia from Pennsylvania – “I finished the Pencil Man. Loved it!!! You are a really good author!"

Diane from Michigan - "I have read over 250 novels over the past decade.  I couldn't tell you what half of them were about--they just weren't that interesting.  Your stories stick with people."

  The Art of Freezing Pickles

Scan_Cov_FP.jpg

Kay from Indiana“I read your new book "The Art of Freezing Pickles" in one sitting. It was so good I didn't go to sleep last night till I finished it.  It's your best yet. I really hated for it to end.  I was totally involved with the characters.  The characters and story were so deeply developed. It is a wonderful Christian book that I hope lots of people find to read.  I gave it a five star review on Amazon. Thank you for the beautiful book.  I loved your book and am spreading the word.”

Elise from Washington – “I have been reading The Art of Freezing Pickles every  night, and am pleased to say I am almost finished! I love the story line, the sweet little town, and the inspirational characters that really make one think about how to be helpful, kind, and a great friend to others no matter what.  I also have endless praise for Arthur, the mini Superman.  There are a lot of times, as a teenager, that I’ve looked at something and thought, I really don’t want to do this, maybe I can just blow it off, or find some way around it.  Since Arthur, I’ve started to look at those tasks and thought that they’re much easier than the hardships and tasks that he has to overcome and complete, and it spurs me on.  Reverend Pyle’s passionate sermons have also helped me look differently at my relationship with God, and I’ve been praying much more often than my nightly prayer as a result.  Thank you so much!”

Terrrie from California  – Don I just finished thoroughly enjoying The Art of Freezing Pickles in 3.5 days. I guessed early on that "Freezing Pickles" is a state of mind, one I hope I never lose. Again, you surprised me with the ending, and though I didn't cry, I did get a bit misty eyed. Your characters are developed so well, I can see them in my mind's eye, and they feel like friends to me.  And I loved that you brought back Alice as a pilot!!

Carl from Michigan – “I just finished Don McAllister's book, The Art of Freezing Pickles. What a joy to read. Once the story gets going with a character called Arthur, it was just so wonderful. Thanks Don so much for putting that book together for us.”

Amy from Indiana - "HEY DON, I FINISHED THE ART OF FREEZING PICKLES!!!  I LOVED IT.  IM A FAN!!!"

 Satchel at the Second Chance

Scan_Cov_SA.jpg

Nancy from Indiana – With each book Don McAllister has written, he continues to hone his craft.  This is no exception.  His characters are well developed.  His plot takes you where you least expect. Satchel is a friend we would all be proud of having.  As with all of Don's books, I couldn't put it down, but hated to see it end.  Thank you, Don.

Ron from Massachusetts – I finished reading Satchel today.  It has the distinction of having been the only novel I've read in more years than I can remember.  I loved it for many reasons.  It included many of the emotions and values I've experienced in life, and could relate to it.

Kay from Virginia – Though a rather bizarre vehicle for relating this story, it was a very well written look at some of our country's history.  The characters were so alive you felt you were making the journey with them.  There was a real depth and insight into humanity.  I immensely enjoyed this book.

 Lawrence of Lawrence

BookCoverPreviewfrontonly.jpg

David from Nevada – Lawrence of Lawrence covers so many different genres – geriatric isolation, gang violence, courtroom drama, teen friendship/romance, racial tension, actual catastrophes, wartime, intergenerational relationships, deep and unexpected friendships, mystery, self-discovery, and redemption, just to name a few.  It is woven together so beautifully.

Nancy from Indiana – You did it to me again!  I met Lawrence today!  Sat down to just open the book to read for a couple of minutes.  Next thing I knew, the dogs were starving and letting me know, and I was halfway through the book!  I refuse to read it in one setting as I usually do with your books.  Want the journey to continue and not be over so quickly.  Another success.  Thank you for the great plot and cast.

Your insight to this particular set of characters is amazing.  It makes your reader want to see what is around the next corner. Will Weasel dare show up again?  What is Lawrence's secret?  Where did he serve?  What did he see?  Will Mary win her love?  Will these questions keep me up tonight?  Will I break down and finish it tonight??

Gary from Alabama – Thank you for the book! I am thoroughly enjoying it.  Unlike most people, when I enjoy a book, I don’t read it all in one sitting.  I savor it like a good cup of coffee, reading a chapter each night before bed.  It’s important for me to finish each day on a good note, and your books certainly do that for me.

Dana from Indiana – I just finished Lawrence and LOVED IT!!!  I'm filled with a mix of emotions, but I have to pull myself together a get to work now.  I'd rather stay home and read it again.  Thanks for another great book Don.

Dan from California – It is a wonderful story. It really tugged at my heart strings, for a lot of reasons.  Just loved it and could see it being made into a movie.

Doris from Indiana – We loved your book, couldn't put it down.  The storyline was really interesting and took many turns and had many surprises.  We are eagerly waiting for your next book.

Nikki from Indiana –It's an awesome book.  I read it in 2 days because I couldn't put it down!  It kept me on the edge of my seat and just when I thought I knew what was coming up it took an unexpected turn.  It felt like I was part of the book.  The Roselyn Bakery and businesses of yesteryear brought back many warm fuzzies.  I drove my family crazy telling them step by step like Lawrence was our neighbor!

Mrs. J.T. from Florida – I purchased Lawrence of Lawrence for my mom, who is an avid reader. I wanted to share what she wrote in a letter to me after she completed the book.

She said:

I just want to thank you so very much for the gift of Don McAllister's wonderful book. It was so inspirational, much interesting information, amazing characters, and it took me back to some places from my childhood in New Jersey. I really didn't want it to end!

I know you don't have a lot of down time for reading but you will really enjoy it and will get a kick out of the mentions of Anderson and Indianapolis that you are so familiar with.

I had begun the book the day after it arrived and got halfway through. Then I finally got back to it Sunday morning and read straight through to 1:20 a.m. this morning. Just couldn't put it down and hated for it to end.

I see he has written 4 more books and will look into purchasing them. You really know your mother, don't you? The best gift in my world will always be reading material!

- Mrs. J.T.

Farrah from Indiana – If you love a good book like I do, here it is!  Only on chapter 4 but I don’t want to put it down!!  Guess it will have to wait a few minutes while I read our son a bedtime story.  Seriously, check this book out!  If a book doesn’t grab me right away, I’m out.  It’s definitely a good one.  Plus it covers so many different genres!

Thanks again, Don McAllister!

Tonya from Washington – Loved this book !!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom from Indiana – I have read your book twice! I love it!  Lawrence of Lawrence has lots of details that anyone from Indiana can relate.  I don't want to give too much detail, but it is definitely a Great Read!  Thanks for writing it!  I will probably read it again!
